Corvus grumbled, sinking lower into his chair. He looked at the untouched food on his plate. Meat loaf. Who the bloody hell ate meat loaf? The Longbottoms, apparently. He looked over at his dad, who wore the same expression as his son. Disgust. They both wanted their fancy cuisine back. Hermione kicked both her son and her husband under the table, giving them a look that said 'If you don't act grateful then you two will be getting my lecture later.' Corvus and Draco straightened up, picked up their forks, and began slowly poking at the food. "Thank you so much for letting us spend the holidays with you," Hermione said with a gracious smile to Neville and Ginny. "It's such a pleasure. We haven't seen each other in so long!" Corvus groaned internally. It was a pleasure to spend the only break he got from school at the Longbottoms? HA! He suddenly envied Amy. She had been invited to the Goyle's again. Oh, what he would do to trade out Annie for Alan. He glanced at the girl from the corner of his eye. She wasn't bad looking - actually, she was fairly pretty - but that was her only good attribute. It was snuffed out merely by the fact that she was a Longbottom.

Annie started intently at her meatloaf as she ate. She was not entirely pleased the the Malfoys were her. The least they could have done was bring Amy. Amy at least was fairly nice. To everyone. But no. It was just that bitter, stuck up Corvus that sat at their dining room table, eating (or not eating) her mother's rather delicious meatloaf. For a second, she felt someone was watching her and looked up. She scanned the table with her eyes, and caught the stare of none other than Corvus himself. What was he doing looking at her? Why would he even want to? She was, afterall, a Longbottom. AND a Hufflepuff. Annie figured he was just coming up with some mean insults and stories to spread around when they got back to school. She wondered how long it would take for everyone to know that Annie Longbottom enjoyed meatloaf.
(ooc: I really hate meatloaf. lol)

Owen was eating his meatloaf. It wasn't his favorite meal, but it was good enough. Anyway, it was dinner, so he ate it. Better than going hungry. That seemed to be Corvus's goal. However, Owen wouldn't remark on that. It would be rude to do so. Even if Corvus was a Malfoy.

(ooc: I'm giving the youngest Malfoy boy a name.)
"Oh, I know," Ginny said. "So how are your other kids doing? Where's Amy and Henry?" Hermione folded her hands in her lap, having just finished off her plate. "Amy is spending the holidays with the Goyles again, and Henry had to be at school for his dueling club." Corvus looked away from Annie and sneered at his food. He momentarily hated his siblings for being about to worm their way out of staying at this hell hole. Amy always dug her way out of everything, and Henry always got what he want because was the youngest. Corvus's stomach grumbled. He was starving, and every minute the meat loaf looking tastier. He eventually sucked up his pride and took a bite of the horrid stuff. It wasn't as bad as he'd been expecting.

Annie looked away and faced her meatloaf again. She vaguely wondered if her mother and Mrs. Malfoy could sense the awkward tension in the room. Corvus and Mr. Malfoy were sitting awkwardly and staring at the plates in front of them. Her father was eating slowly, refusing to talk to Mr. Malfoy and talking very little to Mrs. Malfoy. Her brother, Owen was concentrating very hard on his own meatloaf. "It's a pity Amy couldn't be here," Annie said quietly, hoping to ease at least a little tension as Corvus began eating the meatloaf sitting in front of him. Slowly, Annie scooped some of her own meatloaf into her mouth and chewed, allowing herself a fair amount of time without having to speak again. "Oh, yes," Mrs. Malfoy replied quite kindly. "I really do think she'll have to spend her Christmas with us one of these years. It's a shame to have her away all the time." "I really don't know what I'd do if my children were gone for Christmas every year. Luckily, we've never had to deal with a situation like that. We only go on family vacations during the holidays, and none of the kids has ever wanted to stay at Hogwarts," Ginny replied cheerfully.
(edit: ooc: I love how everyone is totally awkward except for Hermione and Ginny. lol)

Draco eyed his son carefully, then, assuming it was safe to eat, took a bite of his own food. An awkward silence elasped, and Corvus watched Hermione give her husband 'the eye'. Draco, getting the hint, cleared his throat and acknowledged the Longbottom boy. "So, uh, Owen," he said. "Do you play Quidditch, or, er, anything?" Corvus almost spewed out his food, trying not to laugh. He coughed as a cover up and lowered his head, hiding the smile creeping onto his face. It was hard for him to imagine Owen Longbottom on a Quidditch team. Whenever they had crossed paths before, the boy was always reading.

"I don't. I'm more acedemic," he replied, smiling in a friendly manner even though he felt akward talking to a Malfoy. owen smiled slightly, and continued eating, hoping that no other questions were directed at him.

"What about you, Annie?" Hermione said with a smile, before the silence could overtake the table again. "Any classes you particularily like?"
(ooc: Really short and not even my actual character, I know. But this is all I could come up with. >_< lol)

Annie looked up at Mrs. Malfoy, giving her an expression of confusion. "Well, I don't play quidditch myself, but I love to watch. That last game before break was quite fantastic. Ravenclaw's seeker pulled some great moves, but it was nothing compared to Slytherin's exceptional Chasers." Annie jabbered on for a long time about the odds and ends of the match, knowing that her silence would cover the whole table in a complete state of awkward tension. Again.

Corvus's eyebrow rose high until it was hidden behind the blonde hair falling over his forehead. He loved hearing about how well his team had done at the last match (Cory himself had personally taken out two Ravenclaws with the bludger), but he was shocked that Annie Longbottom paid that much attention to the games. After a while, he finally interupted her. "If you like Quidditch that much, how come you haven't learned to play?"
(ooc: Ooo plot. Does Annie want a flying lesson? xD)

Annie stopped talking abruptly. Not only was this the first time Corvus had spoken since he had entered the house, but he was asking a completely valid question she had never bothered to think about. Why hadn't she ever tried to learn? Her mother had been a fairly good chaser. What was it that kept her on the ground? (ooc: I think she just might.) "I suppose I just always had so much fun watching I never even thought about playing. Now, it simply lies in the fact that I can't fly."
