Jeremy chuckled. "You and me both." He sat up straighter. "Books Jeremy? What good will those do you?! Go create some noxious potions or something! Why, when I was your age, all those filthy mudbloods where cowering from my gaze!" he imitated his father's voice, then sighed. "My conversing with you would really set them off." He glanced at Katherine. "I still can't believe you're talking civil to me..."

Katherine looked him up and down, and her foot stopped tracing on the ground. "Honestly, I can't believe it either," she admitted. "It makes sense now, though. Why you never really were as terrible to me as you were to my brother and my cousins. We're kinda the same, you and I." Katherine ran her fingers through her long, red waves of hair, thinking deeply, and humming absentmindedly. What an odd conversation she was having, and with Jeremy Malfoy. "I remeber the last lecture I got from my mum. Honestly, Kate, always upstairs brewing some odd potion. Why can't you ever practice your defensive spells like your brother? I know you can cast an amazing bat bogey hex." She sighed, moving her head so her hair blocked her face, which now bore a highly dissatisfied expression.

Jeremy sighed. "I supposed you always seemed like that book on the top shelf I couldn't reach, but it interested me so much I couldn't stand it when my mum kept keeping it out of my grasp." He smirked. "And yet here I am sitting and talking to you in a civilized manner, my mum would be so angry." He shifted his foot, stretching the crink out of his leg. "Remind me never to make you angry if you can throw that hex at me. Personally I'm horrible at potions, much to my father's dismay. Imagine, a Malfoy, failing potions..."

Katherine chuckled. "My mum is dismayed that potions is my best subject. She wishes I were better at Defense Against the Dark Arts, and my dad wants me to be good at Herbology. It's weird though, because along with Transfiguration, those are my worst subjects." She gave Jeremy a small smile. "It almost seems like we're in the same boat, and we can't find the paddle. Everything our parents want us to be good at we're not, and everything we are good at, they can't figure out why."

Jeremy nodded. "Exactly." He looked up suddenly, a gleam in his eye. "You know what we could do? I could help you with Transfiguration, and you could help me with Potions. Then maybe we could both get a little slack from the parentals..." Then he frowned. "Course, I doubt you'd wanna be seen around with me...I don't have the best reputation around here when it comes to the females..."

Katherine made a face. "If I was seen with you, I would get a lecture from each and every one of my cousins. Do you realize how many cousins I have here? Simply, my mother had six brothers. Every kid here with the last name Weasley is my cousin. We'd have to work in secret. And since our break is at the same time, that may actually work. Perhaps we could always meet here at this time. And we could alternate days. One day you can help me with Transfiguration, the next I'll help you with potions." Katherine beamed at her brilliant plan. She wasn't in Ravenclaw for nothing, after all.

Jeremy nodded in excitement. "Yeah, that might work! I come here almost every day anyway to read, getting some learning in too would definitely help." He paused for a moment, scuffing his shoe on the floor. "Are you sure you don't mind hanging out with a lousy Malfoy during your break time? I mean...if you want I could...pay you for your time. Merlin knows my family has plenty of money..."

Katherine looked at Jeremy a little shocked. She hadn't exactly expected him to offer to pay. The money would be nice. Her parents didn't send her as much spending money if her grades weren't pretty high, but if he was helping her, her grade would get higher. That was the thing, he was going to help her too. "You're not exactly a lousy Malfoy. No one who offers to beat up Teddy for me and then sits and talks to me until I cheer up can really be considered lousy. Anyway, you're going to be helping me as much as I'm helping you, so it's not really that big of a deal." She smiled at him, hoping to reassure him.

Jeremy smiled slightly, fighting off a blush at the slight comment. "Thanks, usually I get called much worse then 'lousy Malfoy', it's refreshing to hear the opposite every once in awhile." He glanced at her again. "Are you sure? Mum sends me so much gallons I don't know what to do with them." he scratched his head nervously. "There is a word going around the Slytherin dorms that your family isn't exactly...wealthy." He averted his eyes, embarrassed to be bringing it up.

Katherine blushed a little at this comment. None of the Weasleys were particularly wealthy, but her family was particularly unwealthy since her father's department at the ministry had been completely cut. "I can't really stop you if you insist on paying me, but if you do, I'll have to explain where I got the money. Although I'm not too bad at lying. I don't care, really. Mum doesn't send me half as much as she sends Joshua, since my best grade is potions, and I'm on the verge of failing Transfiguration. Humerous really, a Ravenclaw almost failing a class."

Jeremy laughed. "That's about as humorous as a Malfoy failing potions." He sighed. "I guess I don't have to pay you, but if you ever need any money, don't be afraid to ask, I've got more then I really need anyway." He ran his hand through his hair again, trying to avoid looking shy or nervous. "But I'd still really appreciate if you helped me out in potions, I think my partner is getting tired of me blowing things up on him...and Transfigurations I could help you with in return, I don't mind." He laughed a bit nervously. "I never would have bet on you and me coming to an idea like this one a few hours ago..."

Katherine smiled a little shyly at him. "One hour ago, I would never have bet we could have had a civil conversation, much less agreeing to help each other with our classes." Katherine looked intently into his blue eyes, hoping to find something there that would give something away. Not finding it, she shrugged. "Happens, I guess. Things you wouldn't ever expect, I mean. Odd to think of though, a Malfoy and a Longbottom getting along. Almost as rare as Ravenclaws failing and Malfoys failing potions, right?"

Jeremy tried hard to hide anything escaping through his eyes. He was intent on not looking away as she searched his eyes for something. He nodded, "Very odd, but I'm glad it's happening, it's kinda nice to have someone around here that doesn't hate me...or just follow me cause of my reputation or money." He smirked, "Malfoys don't have many friends...course, if you don't want me to call you that, it's fine. We can be...acquaintances if you'd prefer."

Katherine smiled a little, a slight chuckle escaping. "I think friend will suffice," she said, matter-of-factly before checking her watch. "Oh dear, I should probably go. I don't want to show up to Defense Against the Dark Arts looking like this. Both Elizabeth and Lucille will be there, and I don't fancy telling either of them about this meeting or the reason I was crying in the first place. I'll see you here tomorrow though, right?" Katherine looked at him expectantly, hoping he wouldn't take too long to answer.

Jeremy scrambled to his feet. "Wait," He fought back a blush, he couldn't believe he was actually gonna ask her to stay. "If you don't want to go back...I could teach you everything that slimey git down in the DA classroom can, and probably in a more coherent way." He shuffled his feet. "I have to skip a class every now and then to keep up appearances, and it gets kinda boring just sitting around alone...especially cause my book's ruined now."
